No Ones First and You’re Next

August 17th, 2009

no ones firstyou knew this would happen eventually, i have to blog about the new modest mouse ep.

for those of you who dont know modest mouse has been my favorite band since i first heard Shit Luck (iTunes) off the skate video Misled Youth some time in middle school. which is on their best cd The Lonesome Crowded West (iTunes). the last two full length cds has gained them much popularity, which long time users aren’t a fan of (the sound and popularity that is). i can agree with that to an extent, but the new ep has restored my hope in the fact that they are still able to make music like they used to.

The two songs that stick out in my mind when i say this are King Rat (iTunes) and The Whale Song (iTunes). The whole cd is FAR from the new singles that made them big such as Float On and Dashboard. I can recommend this with confidence to anyone who wants to know what modest mouse should sound like. Not to be elitist or anything but if you only like Float On and Dashboard and act surprised when i mention that modest mouse has more than two cds and goes back to 1993, i much rather you just be ignorant that they exist, it’ll make me much more comfortable around you. I still stick with my original promise as well, if i see you at a modest mouse concert and don’t yell fakes (or snakes in some cases) during Trailer Trash (iTunes) ill punch you in the face.

Modest Mouse in Myrtle Beach, SC

March 14th, 2009

so im sure everyone is aware of how much i like modest mouse. so i saw them for the third time last night with my ex girlfriend julianne. i got one of the limited edition photozines from the photograher that has been following them around forever. i also managed to get the set list from the stage thanks to one of the guys that picks up the mess the bands leave. which ill probably frame or something. i also bought the sunburst t shirt in brown(i bought it in baby blue years ago). this one is on american apparel so i know ill wear it way more often. but anyways ill leave you with a picture of the swag.

February 9th, 2009

yeah i have some…its not really mine i have to pay back half of it(school check from loans/grants/etc) the other half is my tax return…but either way its enough to pay for another semester of school, a vacation, car repairs, and maybe a DSLR. so its good enough for me.
i really want to start playing music with a band btw. i talked to blackdave (www.blackdave.org) and we may make more TNF music (www.myspace.com/thenewfolder). as we keep doing it it gets better.
i also want to start the world wide webshow (www.theworldwidewebshow.com) which ive been throwing around ideas to people and they are interested but lack the drive i guess. i have an hd cam to shoot it on. if you are interested in any of this email me/comment/aim/etc.
also if a metal band(or any band for that matter) will cover our song Metal 101 id love to have a live version of it.

Work/Money/Vacation/New Shoes

February 1st, 2009

im going to split up these topics one at a time for you.

Work: i work at staples and my hours have been cut in half from 3 days a week to 1 or 2 days. which is a big deal cause i only work on weekends to pay bills and i do school during the week. im so tired of hearing of this bad “economy” its getting pretty old. my dad talks about it so much it makes me crazy. he owns his own business and complains about it. seriously how does a bad economy have anything to do with towing cars? do you just leave them in the road now cant you cant afford a 50 dollar tow? maybe cars have gotten better and not needing to be towed/repaired as much. thats what i think it is.

Money: im getting money from a few sources other than work which is nice so im not too worried about not having any. ill have my tax return, and my school money coming to me which will be a few G’s so with that ill go on a

Vacation: me, danny, julianne, and whoever else are taking a week long trip to disney/universal/orlando for a vacation. its always nice to get away from the life here for a while. last year i went with danny and mandy (someone i met from stickam that lived in florida at the time) to disney world for a day which was awesome. year before that i went with another girl on a two day trip to universal studios. i have pics of both trips i promise to upload one of these days. if you are my friend i have them on facebook or myspace which gives you a reason to find my links and add me up.

New Shoes: so after many years of service i retired my old shoes. i dont remember which ones they were but i just remember they were I-Paths which were awesome. my grandmother bought me a new pair cause my old ones were falling apart so bad they barely stayed on my feet. incase you want to know they are the Globe Magnum Mid’s.

and thats all for this blogpost. follow me up on twitter or something.

the modest mouse show last night

June 27th, 2008

im sure most of you know my favorite band is modest mouse. i went to the show at house of blues in myrtle beach last night. they played some songs i wasnt expecting, broke and here it comes, but anyways back to my story. i was next to these ugly, drunk, and trampy bar girls, you know the annoying girls that surround you with cigarette smoke and slut dance to anything and spill there drinks on anyone around them. there was something else that bothered me as well. the two 11 year old girls that just stood there, i guess they just wanted to hear dashboard. and if that wasnt enough to aggravate me, i got there late so i wasnt anywhere near the stage with the people that have listened to modest mouse beyond dashboard and float on. so everyone around me was just standing not into it at all. good set with about a 50/50 mix of new songs to classics like truckers atlas was amazing. but anyways other than the annoyances it was a good show i just wish i could have been upclose.
